Most people think of trailers and trailer parks when they hear mobile homes. This is what I thought before I bought mine. This morning, someone asked me how much I paid per month to rent the land out. I told her I own the land and my home is strapped and secure and attached to the land. Nowadays, mobile homes are built to withstand winds up to 180 miles per hour. They often include impact windows and metal roofs. In the Florida Keys, most mobile homes built after 1976 are financeable. My home withstood Hurricane Irma with no structural damage. We lost the back side awning, which was easily replaced. We never lost electricity either.

2018 shrimping reducedPack your boat with some goodies and head out just before sunset. For best results, go on a cold night and full moon. Find your favorite alcove where the current goes through. After sunset, drop some lights in the water on the side of the boat. Several people can have nets and look for the shrimp to run. Drop the net in the water and the shrimp will swim into it. Get a 5-gallon bucket and put the catch in there. Make sure to observe the legal limits. Before you know it, you will have a nice dinner. Once you get to shore, you can remove the shrimp heads. You pack it up in dinner portions and freeze.

I just sold this amazing view in Sunset Acres, and am pleased to welcome wonderful new neighbors to our fabulous community. Sunset Acres consists of 77 homes, and is an easy one hour drive from Miami. Conveniently located in Tavernier at mile marker 93 Bayside, residents have easy access to the ocean via Tavernier Creek just minutes away.

Sunset Acres is a close-knit community where everyone knows one another. The Buyers have been visiting Sunset Acres for years and had become acquainted with the Seller, resulting in a thoroughly pleasant transaction among friends.

If you are interested in a Keys Retreat in this great community, please contact me. There are currently a few homes for sale and I would be happy to show them to you.

Optimistic

I am optimistic about our wonderful Florida Keys. I believe we will be stronger and better than before Hurricane Irma. The recovery is still a work in progress, but changes can be seen daily. One of my favorite sayings is “You can’t drown a conch”.

The Upper Keys (Key Largo, Tavernier and Islamorada) were not affected as bad as the Lower Keys (Big Pine Key and surrounding area). Also, properties on the bayside fared better than properties on the oceanside.

In the Upper Keys, many neighborhoods had power within a few days. Some never lost power. In many cases, electricity in the Keys was restored quicker than in Miami.

In the real estate market, there are fewer homes available for sale today than before the storm. Currently, there are 6-9 months of inventory. Sellers have not flooded the market with new listings. Interest rates remain low. The average sales price is between $500k and $600k. These are great signs of a stable market.

Whether you want a second home/weekend getaway, an investment property or a permanent home, I can help you with all your real estate needs in the Florida Keys.

Enjoy your home in the summer and rent it out in the winter. Remember, the “winter folks” are on their way.

Winter Season

Another winter season has come and gone in the Florida Keys. Year after year, the same people come to our community and spend 4 to 5 months with us. Some have been renting the same place for 15 years. We have made lifelong friends with some of them. The good news is that we will see them again in 6 or so months. Now comes the summer, when the locals from Miami come more often. We will swim in the canal and have good times with them.
This is a great reason why you should buy your keys retreat. Enjoy it in the summer and rent it out in the winter to people who will enjoy and take care of and your home.
